Shiatsu is a healing art connecting mind, body and soul to bring your life force in balance and flow again. This reminds you of your own healing abilities. Shiatsu makes you go back to your soul and be your truth.
Shiatsu is a gentle yet powerful form of body work that originated in Japan. Its name means ‘finger pressure’ in Japanese, and shiatsu uses finger and palm pressure, stretches and joint rotations to release tension and rebalance your body, bringing it into flow and promoting its own healing abilities. Shiatsu is used for a wide range of issues, including stress, anxiety, depression, PMS, chronic pain and digestive problems, and is also excellent for maintaining your overall wellbeing. What can shiatsu help with? As shiatsu is a holistic practice, focusing on the connection between mind, body and soul, it helps to promote physical, emotional and psychological healing. When I give shiatsu, I feel your energy as it wants to present itself to me – I let your body tell me what it most needs. Each treatment is tailored to your whole health picture. People come to me for support with lots of different conditions, including:

How does it work?
Shiatsu practitioners work with ki or qi (pronounced ‘chee’) – the life energy that flows within our bodies, especially through pathways called meridians. Ki should flow freely but as we go through life and accumulate tension in our bodies, this flow can become imbalanced, which can affect our wellbeing in many different ways. If you’ve ever had acupuncture or acupressure, you may be familiar with this idea. Shiatsu is based on the theories of classical Chinese medicine, the ancient healing system from which acupuncture and acupressure come.
As a shiatsu practitioner, my aim is to restore the balance we all innately need and desire, improving mental, physical and spiritual wellbeing. The pressure and movement I use works with ki to rebalance its flow within the meridians. My touch reminds the body how it feels when it’s in balance, and that’s what helps it to heal.

What to expect?
A Shiatsu session typically lasts an hour. This includes an about 10 minutes chat at the start about your health and ailments you came for and 50 minutes of hands on touch work. Shiatsu is a full body practice given on a futon on the floor. However giving Shiatsu on a bed or massage table is also possible if you cannot get on the floor. There are no massage oils or creams involved as the receiver is fully dressed. |

Shiatsu Touch
In Shiatsu, touch is the practitioner’s tool. Shiatsu touch is listening with the hands. One of the main principals in Shiatsu is the unconditional positive regard towards the receiver. Whichever story is behind the receiver’s ailments there is no judgement, every receiver on the Shiatsu futon is treated equal. This brings a very special quality to Shiatsu touch. A quality of open receptivity and seeing the receiver for who they are. The Shiatsu touch is one of experiencing what is happening in the receiver’s body. It is one of the biggest joys of giving Shiatsu to feel the reaction of the receiver’s body to the touch at an acupuncture point that is relevant to them and to feel the energy move again at a blocked meridian passage. It is brilliant to feel the release of tension. Sometimes what we feel is very small but it has a very big effect on the receiver. As a receiver of Shiatsu for more than 20 years I can vouch for Shiatsu touch. Every practitioner I received Shiatsu from has a special touch. It is a touch that comes from the practitioner’s listening to your body and meditation on the changes that are happening in the body. Shiatsu is less moving your muscles and trying to solve an issues. Shiatsu touch is helping the body to remember how to heal itself. And I believe it is the unconditional positive regard that plays a role in the very special Shiatsu touch. |
